Adopting the healthcare loyalty system

01
About the Platform
iheart supports clinics in their day-to-day operations, from automated medical analytics to surgical assistance. It’s used across departments — whether it’s a general nurse checking post-op results or a surgeon in need of real-time AI assistance during procedures.
Our challenge was clear:
How might we reward clinics for adopting AI features that optimize workflows while creating a system that actually improves daily routines, not distracts from them?
02
Kick-Off
We began by identifying the most repetitive and time-consuming parts of a medical team’s workflow — data interpretation, post-surgery documentation, and surgery prep. These were perfect candidates for automation via iheart’s AI assistant, which we made available through a tiered subscription model. But that was just the functional side. We also wanted to build an emotional layer of engagement.

03
We built the loyalty program around performance and purpose
I benchmarked loyalty systems from other digital health and SaaS tools, and studied how gamification is used in high-trust environments like fintech and edtech. Since iheart already had Stripe payment integration and tracked surgery events and AI activations in-app, we were able to map real behaviors, ike successful surgery completions, AI usage, and even referrals into a points and achievements system.

04
Build a loyalty system that aligns with care
To address these challenges, our team designed a comprehensive loyalty system. Practitioners and nurses receive bonuses for completing specific AI-driven tasks that are billable to the healthcare practice. To make these bonuses more personalized and aligned with the healthcare context, we’ve decided to name them Carebeats.

05
What is Carebeats?
We created Carebeats - a rewards system built into the EHR, where clinicians earn bonuses for completing AI-assisted tasks, track progress in their personal profile, and withdraw rewards for personal use or donations.

06
You can earn Carebeats by completing these tasks:
1. Surgical Assistance.AI tools assist with surgery planning, providing real-time guidance.

2. Documentation Summarization.AI automatically summarizes detailed medical records, saving clinicians time and reducing manual entry.

3. Medication Recommendations.AI helps prescribe optimal medication based on patient history and current conditions, streamlining the prescription process.

The bonuses are linked directly to the completion of these tasks, encouraging healthcare providers to use AI tools more frequently and engage with them deeply.
07
Let clinicians choose their rewards
1. Carebeats DonationClinicians have the option to donate their bonuses to a charity or healthcare-related cause. This feature allows them to contribute to a cause they care about, while also supporting the broader healthcare community.
2. Enroll in a Professional CourseClinicians can choose to enroll in a professional development course using their earned 50 Carebeats. This option allows them to enhance their skills, stay up-to-date with the latest medical practices, and earn certifications that contribute to their ongoing education and career advancement.

08
Outcomes
The implementation of this loyalty program for clinicians and nurses will lead to:
Increased AI adoption: Clinicians embraced tools that saved them time
Higher engagement: Rewards deepened usage of billable features
Stronger culture: Bonuses fostered connection and community
Positive impact: Many chose to give back, supporting healthcare causes
09
Conclusion
The power of this system isn’t just in bonuses. It’s in shifting how clinicians feel about their tools. This case shows that when designed with empathy, AI-driven loyalty programs can improve care delivery, strengthen teams, and foster meaningful engagement without adding complexity to already demanding workflows. The result? Higher usage of time-saving tools, stronger clinical collaboration, and a growing culture of innovation without adding complexity to care delivery.
